Premier League - Liverpool vs. Tottenham Hotspur - prediction, team news, lineups

5 de mayo de 2024

Liverpool may be out of the title race but it wouldn’t hurt to secure a win in the remaining games. They will welcome Tottenham at Anfield on Sunday with the aim of going back to their winning ways.

Jurgen Klopp's side has seen their performance diminish in the last couple of games. In their last match, they secured a 2-2 draw against West Ham, while Tottenham suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.

Statistics

Liverpool’s inconsistency when it comes to winning important games has led to them losing foothold in the pursuit of the Premier League title. Since, the news of Jurgen Klopp leaving the club at the end of the season, the team seems to have lost motivation leading to them losing most of their important matches.

They failed to make the best of their opportunity at the FA Cup and the Europa League due to the defeats they suffered against Manchester United and Atalanta BC.

Liverpool has only won 2 games in the last 7 matches which is poor, especially for the team who was a strong contender in all competitions a couple of weeks ago.

Last week against West Ham, they were leading at some point in the second half before succumbing to a 2-2 draw. Whilst Jarrod Bowen netted the first goal for West Ham in the 43 minutes, Andrew Robertson netted the equalizer for Liverpool in the 48th minute before Alphonse Areola scored an own goal to give Liverpool the lead.

However, just before the game ended, Michail Antonio secured a 2-2 draw for West Ham in the 77th minute.

Tottenham suffered a 2-0 defeat against Chelsea last week — despite their efforts, they were unable to score to equalize the 3-goal lead. While they are currently in the 5th position, their inability to win important games is concerning and has made their dream of making the top 4 a bit more difficult — as they are 7 points behind Aston Villa — who’s currently in the 4th position.

Tottenham is eliminated in almost all competition this season including the FA Cup tournament where they lost 1 - 0 against Manchester City in the 1/16 finals. Their goal now might be to enjoy the rest of the remaining games in the campaign to retain their Europa League qualification spot.

They have lost 3 of their last games including the 4-0 defeat against Newcastle, the 3-2 defeat against Tottenham, and the 2-0 defeat against Chelsea.

In the last 5 games between both teams, Tottenham has one win and two draws, while Liverpool has won 2 out of those 5 games.
